C-Facts is a new cloud native company whose focus is to give valuable insights into the digital cloud footprint for Enterprises, Government and Service Providers, regardless of what public cloud provider is used (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM and Oracle Cloud).

Their innovative cloud management product, which is entirely built using AWS technology, shows your insights on public cloud services in relation to costs, usage and billing. This allows you to manage and control the impact of these cloud services and mitigate related risks. In doing so, the company also has envisioned a mission where they want to have a trusted business relationship and enable customers to have a measurable, transparent and auditable business footprint facilitating further growth and transition towards a sustainable business environment.

Their challenge.

To process high amounts of data from the different cloud providers, C-Facts needed to come up with a scalable, performing, secure and GDPR-compliant platform. Without losing their focus on creating value for their business, they wanted to be able to develop and scale quickly, and chose AWS to do the heavy lifting and to be able to work with the latest innovations. This is where Amazon Web Services shines in providing cutting-edge enterprise capabilities in a pay-as-you-go model and for a fraction of the normal cost. To help sustain their focus, Oblivion was asked to perform a Well Architected Review to assure a holistic approach.

The solution.

AWS offers customers Well Architected Reviews that use framework principles to provide an assessment and identify recommended remediations. Based on six pillars (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance, Efficiency, and Cost Optimization), the reviews also serve as a tune-up to keep up pace with the velocity of AWS innovation. New AWS services come at a high volume and speed, and the reviews ensure you’ve been introduced to the most modern services. Together with our AWS Solution Architects, all six pillars are checked within a few hours. The process also helps in increasing elasticity and agility, and to set goals.

The result.

Doing the review is a win-win situation for all parties involved. One of the benefits for the customer is that pressing issues get visibility and get remediated quickly and the satisfaction goes up. This serves a long lasting and successful relationship together with AWS and the Well Architected Partner. Because of this, AWS can provide billing credits as an incentive if the customer moves forward with the Well Architected Partner to remediate some of the issues identified within 30 days.

C-Facts chose to focus on security improvements first and Oblivion implemented the CloudFoundation, which helps isolate resources into multiple accounts (for the blast radius), providing guardrails and guidelines to the customer. It also helps with setting up automated deployment pipelines and resource provisioning via Infrastructure as Code. This results in less downtime and a much improved time to market when new functionality is needed. 
Now C-Facts can focus on platform functionality, code and fast innovation.
